What are same-day crowns?

Same day crowns – also known as CEREC® (chairside economical restoration of esthetic ceramics) crowns – are an advanced solution to the problem of damaged and diseased teeth.

Traditionally, you have to attend separate appointments to have your tooth prepared, then wait while your mouth recovers and an off-site lab creates your crown.

With same-day crowns at Arnica Dental, there’s no need to wait for the second stage, as you can have your crowns fitted the same day as your other procedures.

Why might I need a crown?

You might need a crown if something happens that damages your tooth or weakens it, or you have an infection that requires the removal of part of the tooth.

Every tooth has a root, which is under your gum, and a crown, which is the part of your tooth you can see. A broken or diseased crown might be worth saving if the roots are healthy, in which case Dr. Vasilev can fit a replacement crown over the natural root.

How is a same-day crown made?

The first stage in creating your crown is for Dr. Vasilev to digitally scan your mouth. This is the case in both traditional and same-day crown procedures.

The difference with same-day crowns is that instead of sending the information to a lab, Dr. Vasilev uses specialist CAD/CAM (computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing) technology onsite at Arnica Dental.

In a matter of hours, the CAD/CAM technology designs your crown and mills it from a block of ceramic material.
